The perfect tool to help your clients

learn to cope with unhealthy, stressful feelings and utilize appropriate ways to cope

The Coper’s Flip Book is used to help identify appropriate coping strategies to deal with feelings and unmet needs. Feelings are influenced by our thoughts and perceptions and are also affected by stress. Sometimes it is easier to identify what our “need” is instead of trying to figure out what we are feeling. “Needs” are something that everyone has, but they are also difficult to identify. If you can identify what you are feeling and/or the unmet need, you can learn to cope with unhealthy, stressful feelings and utilize appropriate ways to cope.

Identifying your needs, provides direction to the right solution to challenges or stress. Stress affects your ability to cope with life challenges. A problem-solving strategy is a “Cognitive, affective-behavioral process through which an individual attempts to identify, discover or invent effective means of coping with problems encountered in everyday living” (D’Zurilla 1988). “Problem-solving therapy has been effectively used to treat social skills deficits (Bedell, Archer & Marlow, 1980).” Problem solving attempts to strengthen a person’s belief that appropriate, healthy and prosocial coping skills (“Copers”) can contribute to an overall sense of well-being.
